Yash Chopra Felicitated With Asian Guild Award 2003The London-based Asian Guild chose Yash Chopra for a special Asian Guild Award for his outstanding contribution to the Indian film industry

The Asian Guild Awards 2003 were presented at a dinner held at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, London on May 24, 2003. Joginder Sanger, Vice President and a founder member of the Guild presented the award to Yash Chopra.

Amitabh Bachchan was also selected for the 'Life-Time Achievement Award' and Shah Rukh Khan was presented the 'The Bollywood Star of the Decade Award'. There were also a host of other awardees across various categories.

The occasion was graced by more than 700 guests including Lord Navneet Dholakia, Lord King, Lord Peter Archer (President of the Guild), Deputy Speaker Ms Heath, MP Dr. Ashok Kumar and many High Commissioners, including that of Pakistan. Leading NRI businessmen S.P.Hinduja and G.P.Hinduja (Chairman and President respectively of the Hinduja Group) and Ram Jethmalani (MP, former Union Law Minister) also graced the occasion.

Suresh Josh (Secretary General) recalled the promises held out by Asha Bhosle, well known play back singer and International President of the Guild, that it would become an institution of world renown. The Asian Guild, although just two year old, has as its President Lord Peter Archer said, helped each community "find a part of" their identity and transcend racial barriers. It has been formed with the help of Indians each of whom, like Lord Dholakia, Lord King and Joginder Sanger, the hotelier and recipient of the Community Service award 2002, to provide impetus and recognise the initiatives of Asians. Sitar Maestro Ravi Shankar and Gurinder Chadha of Bend It Like Beckham were among those honoured last year.
