YRF Entertainment is the digital content division of Yash Raj Films, dedicated to the development and production of powerful stories – films and series – in the streaming format for Indian and international audiences. Our vision is to create content that transcends geographic boundaries and language barriers.
In 2021, the division announced producing five marquee streaming projects, including the critically acclaimed and award-winning THE RAILWAY MEN – a four-episode series released on Netflix on 18 November 2023. Inspired by one of the world’s worst man-made industrial disasters, the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy, the series pays a stirring tribute to that night, highlighting the courage of countless unsung railway workers at Bhopal station who risked their lives to save thousands of others.
Earlier in the same year, on 14 February 2023, YRF Entertainment made its streaming debut in collaboration with Netflix, globally premiering THE ROMANTICS – a star-studded, four-part docu-series celebrating the legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra and the 50+ year cultural legacy of Yash Raj Films. Featuring 35 leading voices of the Hindi film industry, the series explores the evolution of the Indian film industry through the lens of YRF’s monumental influence in shaping Indian cinema and making it a global phenomenon. The Romantics has been produced by YRF Entertainment and directed by Smriti Mundhra, who returned to Netflix following the phenomenal success of Indian Matchmaking and Never Have I Ever.
Venturing into historical dramas, YRF Entertainment next produced MAHARAJ – a gripping re-telling of a real-life historic court case, in which a fearless journalist questions the immoral conduct of a revered leader. The film marked the debut of Junaid Khan, starring alongside Jaideep Ahlawat, Shalini Pandey, and Sharvari (special appearance), and was directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra. Maharaj premiered on Netflix on 21 June 2024.
Continuing its momentum, the division next released VIJAY 69 – a quirky, slice-of-life film that tells the uplifting story of a man who decides to compete in a triathlon at the age of 69. Starring Anupam Kher in the lead role and directed by Akshay Roy, the film offers an inspiring and humorous take on second chances and self-belief. Vijay 69 released on Netflix on 8 November 2024.
Expanding its creative range, YRF Entertainment next presented MANDALA MURDERS – an edge-of-the-seat thriller featuring Vaani Kapoor in the lead, alongside Vaibhav Raj Gupta and Surveen Chawla. Directed by Gopi Puthran and Manan Rawat, the series immerses viewers into a gripping world of intrigue and suspense. Mandala Murders premiered on Netflix on 25 July 2025.
Most recently, the division unveiled AKKA – an ambitious series featuring Keerthy Suresh, Radhika Apte, and Tanvi Azmi, written and directed by Dharmaraj Shetty. Set in the matriarchal society of the fictional city of Pernuru in the 1980s, Akka follows the reign of formidable gangster-queens whose power is challenged when an outsider brings an unseen threat, spiralling the powerful sisterhood into a storm of violence and survival. Akka is slated to release on Netflix in 2026.
In addition, YRF Entertainment facilitates cross-cultural collaborations between the Mumbai studio and US-based writers, directors, and technicians. Also, a producer of English-language films, YRF Entertainment has developed and will produce Seducing Ingrid Bergman, a blacklist script written by Arash Amel about the torrid love affair between Ingrid Bergman and photographer Robert Capa. At its inception, YRF Entertainment financed and produced THE LONGEST WEEK, starring Jason Bateman and Olivia Wilde, available on Amazon Prime. This was followed by Cannes-opener, Grace of Monaco, starring Nicole Kidman, available on Amazon Prime.
