Rani Mukerji was honoured with the prestigious Raj Kapoor Special Contribution Award at the 62nd Maharashtra State Film Awards ceremony held today in Mumbai.
The award was presented to Rani Mukerji by the Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, in the presence of Honourable Cultural Affairs Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar, along with distinguished members of the Maharashtra Government,
dignitaries and members of the film fraternity.
The honour recognises her significant and enduring contribution to Indian cinema, as well as her deep association with Mumbai and Maharashtra. Born and brought up in Mumbai, she has spent nearly three decades as one of Indian cinema’s most acclaimed
and versatile performers.
Over the course of her career, Rani has consistently portrayed strong, layered and resilient women through acclaimed films including Black, No One Killed Jessica, Hichki, the Mardaani franchise and Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. Her body of work has been
marked by powerful performances and characters that challenge conventions, reflect resilience and resonate with audiences.
The Raj Kapoor Special Contribution Award is particularly significant in recognising Rani Mukerji’s contribution to the cinematic legacy of Maharashtra, a state that has been at the heart of India’s film industry for generations.
The honour acknowledges her nearly three-decade contribution to Indian cinema and association with a vibrant film culture that continues to shape storytelling in India and across the world.
