'Grace of Monaco' to Open Cannes Film Festival

Grace of MonacoThe biopic, pulled from its March U.S. release date, will premiere at the festival in May.

Olivier Dahan’s Grace of Monaco, which was pulled from its American release date by The Weinstein Company earlier this week, will open the Cannes Film Festival.

The film will make its world premiere in the south of France on May 14 as an official selection, though appearing out of competition. The biopic stars Nicole Kidman as the legendary Hollywood actress turned princess and Tim Roth as Prince Ranier.

Upon the announcement that the film will open Cannes in May, French distributor Gaumont announced that Grace of Monaco will be moved from its French release date of March 19 and has not announced a new French release date.

Dahan had previously been at odds with Harvey Weinstein over suggested changes to the biopic.

Dahan, who directed Marion Cotillard to an Oscar with the biopic La Vie en Rose, spoke out against Harvey Weinstein in an interview last October, saying that there were "two versions" of the film, his and Weinstein's. "When you confront an American distributor like Weinstein, not to name names, there is not much you can do." It's not clear if either version has been completed.

Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that Dahan has yet to deliver the film to TWC. The film's Cannes release date puts pressure on Dahan to complete and deliver his final version the film.

The film is produced by former Europacorp co-founder Pierre-Ange Le Pogam, screenwriter Arash Amel and Uday Chopra under Le Pogam's Stone Angels banner and YRF Entertainment. It's co-produced by TF1 Films, Gaumont, Lucky Red, OD Shots and Ufilm in association with Silver Reel - Ufund.
