“Kabul Express” to be screened at the Cairo International Film Festival

Kabul ExpressIn yet another feather in the cap for Yash Raj Films, “Kabul Express” has been invited to be a part the prestigious Cairo International Film Festival, which is the first ever film festival to be started in the Middle East. The 31st edition of the festival, takes place from 27th November to 7th December, 2007. With a selection of some of the world’s best films and featuring the presence of the world’s biggest stars and directors, the Cairo International Film Festival is one of the world’s leading film festivals. “Kabul Express” will be screened in the ‘Festival of Festivals’ section in the second half of the Festival. 

“Kabul Express” was released in India in December 2006 to wide critical acclaim. It details the story of a couple of Indian journalists who are forced into an incident filled road trip across the country by a Pakistani member of the Taliban. Accompanying them are an American photojournalist and their Afghan guide. As the road twists and turns, so does the story as the five diverse passengers of the jeep “Kabul Express”, understand their commonalities in a country beset by differences. The film stars Indian stars John Abraham and Arshad Warsi with American actress Linda Arsenio, Pakistani actor Salman Shahid and Afghan actor Hanif Hum Ghum filling out the main roles. The film was directed by Kabir Khan and was based on the director’s own experiences shooting documentary films in post Taliban Afghanistan. On its release, the unusual story line and strong performances were widely praised by Indian reviewers and the film was held up as another example of the commitment to unique cinema that typifies Yash Raj Films productions.
