On Friday the 9th of December, MTV and the IMI hosted the MTV IMMIES – a celebration of the best in Indian Music in the year that was. The MTV IMMIES: Indian Music Excellence Award is the sole official music award in the country.
The MTV IMMIES present awards not only for film music, but also across categories as varied as indipop, international, ghazal, bhajan, fusion, classical vocal & instrumental.
In the Film category, Yash Raj Music cornered all the major awards. The Awards won were:
- Bunty aur Babli – “Best Album of the Year”
- Salaam Namaste – “Best Male Playback Singer” to Kunal Ganjawala
- Kajra Re – “Best Female Playback singer” to Alisha Chinai
- Kajra Re – “Best Female Act-Film” to Aishwarya Rai

Yash Raj Music was launched in India with the release of the timeless music of Veer-Zaara (2004). It had previously been launched overseas with “Hum Tum” (2004).
