Yash Chopra - The Forbes Quintessential Man

Yash Chopra was honoured with the title of “The Forbes Quintessential Man” through a new award instituted by the Forbes Group, at a glittering function held in Mumbai on Sunday, 25th June 2006.

Reproduced below are excerpts from a press note released by the Forbes Group, on selecting Mr. Yash Chopra as the recipient of its first Award.

The FORBES GROUP has always stood for quality, dependability and class. On this note The FORBES Group today instituted “The Forbes Quintessential Man” award.

The FORBES group honored Mr. Yash Chopra, labeled the eternal romantic and undoubtedly India’s most successful filmmaker. This award celebrates a man who is not only brilliant at his work, but is a role model to millions. He is a man who has worked his way to become one of the most powerful men in the film fraternity. We honor him for being the right friend, employer, husband and father. His works has been recognized and acclaimed throughout the world and he is truly “The FORBES Quintessential Man”.

Speaking on the occasion, Yash Chopra said, “This award is special because it comes from outside the film industry. It recognizes the contribution that I’ve made to Indian society through my films. I am really humbled. It’s been given to me for my behaviour and my efforts as a human being.” 

On this occasion the Rotary Club of Bombay organized a fundraiser. The Rotary Club carries out a multitude of activities to uplift the poor and downtrodden people in the community and directly benefits over 50000 men, women and children every year. Shiamak Davar and his academy showcased a power packed performance as a tribute to Mr. Chopra.

Already feted with the coveted Padma Bhushan Award and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian cinema, when Yash Chopra was asked whether he has any milestones yet to be achieved, he said, “With God’s blessings, there are many things I have got, but yes, there are paths that I have still to cross. There were films I wanted to make, but could not earlier. I hope to make them now.”
