Yash Chopra - A Musical Inspiration

On Friday the 9th of December, MTV and the IMI hosted the MTV IMMIES - a celebration of the best in Indian Music in the year that was. The highlight of the awards ceremony is the “Inspiration” award, awarded to someone who has had a deep and long lasting impact on the landscape of Indian Music.

Past recipients of the “Inspiration Awards” include the renowned singer Lata Mangeshkar and music director Naushad. Internationally this honour has been conferred on bands like U2. 

With music that has defined generations - from the evergreen classics of “Silsila” and “Kabhi Kabhie” to the new age sensations of “Dhoom” and “Bunty aur Babli” - Yash Chopra is surely one man who has been a beacon for music lovers of Indian Music. So it was apt that, this year, Yash Chopra was awarded the “Inspiration Award” for his contributions to Indian Music. 

The Award was presented to Mr. Chopra by Mr. Bill Roedy, Vice Chairman, MTV Networks worldwide & President, MTV Networks International along with International music sensation and superstar Ronan Keating.

Just before he went up to receive the award, the audiences were treated to a fantastic rendition of Yash Raj Films' songs by none other than Saif Ali Khan, which had the audience going wild. 

On receipt of the award, Yash Chopra highlighted the fact that over the past 2 years, Yash Raj Films has worked with a plethora of musicians - from recreating the classic music of the Late Madan Mohan (for Veer-Zaara), to modern music sensations like Jatin-Lalit (Hum Tum), Pritam (Dhoom), Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (Bunty aur Babli), Vishal & Shekhar (Salaam Namaste) and Salim-Sulaiman (Neal ‘n’ Nikki). He expressed his gratitude for people’s love of the Music that Yash Raj Films has given them.
