Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi to me, is a statement to defend the Indian cinema.

This is probably farfetched on my part, but this is the way I finally understood and appreciated it. At first glance the story seems to tell what is obvious on screen, the love story of Suri and Taani. But why a director who before this movie, stood for values like real love opposed to arranged marriage in DDLJ, and somehow again in Mohabbatein suddenly turns out to be in favour of arranged marriage in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi?

This really disturbed me at first, until I understood that there was more to it. I think the film is about culture clash rather than marriage. Suri representing what is good, subtle, and gentle in Indian cinema and needs to be preserved as opposed to Raj who portrays what is clinging, loud, flashy, and obnoxious in Western cinema. Taani is the Indian Youth who is attracted to Westernization because it's her generation, her world and she cannot escape it until she realizes she can cope with her own culture and still be happy-"bohot" happy.

To make this statement, I think M. Aditya Chopra chose really well his cast: Suri had to be attractive and charming, besides his looks and M. Khan only, can do this so perfectly that you fall in love with Suri the minute he tries to leave a flower for his Taani.

Anushka Sharma is also perfect because she can portray so well the today Indian youth, fitting well in both culture: her clothes and her figure reveal both her sides - she fits well in both and is at ease endorsing both although being unsure of what she really needs and wants.

Suri, on the contrary does not look good in his Western clothes, he looks outdated, misfit and somehow a little ridiculous with his sport shoes and shirt tucked in high waist pants. He only is truly himself when he changes clothes at home - there he delivers the lines that show us his heart and thinking, the journey he is going through and he is then gorgeous looking.

Bobby's clothes and looks are also revealing something I think, he is a part of glory of Indian cinema of the 70's and maybe 80's with influences from the West which gave birth to a certain type of films, may be like Sholay (kind of road movie style), but still being Indian at heart.

It is interesting that Taani never pays attention to her husband because he looks so dull in his clothes and way of life and that later on, although she refrains from being attracted to "loud" Raj, and rejects his behaviour at first, she gradually thinks Raj will help her live more freely and be happier.

Of course Raj is not all that dark and bad, he is attractive and lovable also, he is tender and tries his best to fulfill Taani's desires. Raj could be "Dhoom and Krrish", type of films trying to appeal to westernized youth of India. His behaviour is too superficial (his clothes). He is in a disguise and is going to lose at the end-there is not enough to him to win the battle.

Suri can also sometimes, like in the credits at the end, want to wear "Japanese clothes and goggles", like he says, but the kiss is Hindustani, the feeling has to remain Hindustani.

I think Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, marvelously stands for defending the essence of Indian cinema against "remakes" or "Massala" copies of Americanized action movies, with no real interest.

I love being entertained, I love to laugh, but I cannot bear "macho" Super hero Rambo type kind of films, when the sole reason to it, is showing off a six, eight, twelve (who's got more?) packs brainless guy in Western films as well as in Indian ones. Yes, even though he's good looking like Hrithik!

And that's why I prefer M. Shah Rukh's six packs in Om Shanti Om – because he managed to stand for this, mocking this trend and being the sexiest of all them at the same time! Om Shanti Om has a similar meaning to it also and I love Farah Khan.

So thank you M. Aditya Chopra for your film. I loved it, I'm dying to have the DVD, with bonuses please, so that I could watch it again and again.

I must apologize if my English is not clear at times: I'm French, so you know my way of delivering sentences in English is somehow entwined in French thinking.oops! That was one example.

Finally, I'm quite new to Indian cinema.(You know in France RNBDJ was only released in 2 cinemas! Shame.) I was appealed to it like many French after watching Devdas and most of the DVD films I have watched consequently were those of M. Shah Rukh Khan of course, because I fell under his spell. Who can resist such charm and personality?

Nevertheless I want to see more of them, but do not really know where to get advice. Would you be kind enough to give me advice on what to see? I mean must see (not of SRK because I have bought them all.oops)

Thank you again and please keep working for ages. Love you all.

Wow!!! I absolutely loved the movie. A beautiful love story and as always Shahrukh Khan stole my heart. This sort of love story has been long overdue. It was the simplicity of the message of love, friendship, respect and sacrifice that made this movie so special. I'm sure many people could relate with Surinder and Sahni. This movie reiterates the message that god has created a love story for everyone but its up to us to find it. Many of Shahrukh's films portrays that message like Dil To Pagal Hai and Mohabatein. What a performance by new comer Anushka Sharma. To be standing side by side with Shahrukh who has stood side by side with the great Amitabh Bachan, Amrish Puri and many other famous actors would have been a little intimidating for her. To her credit, what a formidable performance and i'm sure we'll see Anushka in many more films to come. The music in this movie was fantastic. Congrats to Salim Sulaiman. The humour in this movie was well applied. It gave us a chance to go back down memory lane with Shahrukh with his dress sense when he was Raj. it reminded me of many of his earlier roles. I absolutely loved the scene in the 'tujh mein rab dikhta hai' song where these little cuties with turbans come running down the church stairs holding candles. They were precious. Overall, i feel the movie delivered its message well through great acting without making it too corny. Congrats to Aditya on a another successful film and i cannot wait for the DVD.

RNBDJ was a great film firstly i loved the punjabi(being a punjabi it was really well done) firstly from where it was based it was how i see india each time i go to punjab, amritsar gudwara, songs that were used like srk was singing were classic tracks.

The movie was a cute, simple story which all the cast and crew have done a really good job. Suri was really cute abit boring guess he was meant to be a simple guy but so endering, Srk pulled this character off so well and forget the rahuls, rajs etc no one can beat suri in how much he loved his taani and how lovely the character was. Annusha was damn good as Tanni, played the role really well both sides to the character how she was with suri and rahul, she will go a long way i think she reminded me of kajol in a way . It was a funny film as well though some of the things were idiotic only srk could pull them off.Really cute scenes between srk/annusha favourite has to be when she first comes home and the gol gufa compeititon scene

Big congrats to Aditya for coming up with such a great script. Am waiting for the DVD so i can watch it again and again.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is One of the Greatest & Finest Romantic Hindi Films. And ofcourse RNBDJ enters in my one favourite films list. Thanks YRF for making such an A1 movie

Surinder Sahni (Shahrukh Khan) - a simple, clean hearted, honest man working for Punjab Power finds love in vivacious Taani (Anushka Sharma) who is not really happy with her husband. Surinder goes for a makeover to win his wife’s heart in disguise. What follows is a journey filled with some laughter and joy, some pain and tears, some music and dance, and yes, loads of love. For cynics as well as suckers of mush this surely reinforces our faith in love and makes us believe that there is an extraordinary love story in every ordinary couple.

Direction
Aditya Chopra chooses a story that's as ordinary and identifiable as it can be. And though, at times the screenplay falters, the mere presence of SRK elevates the film into an extraordinary experience. But a few things do leave you baffled; No. 1: How on earth Taani (Anushaka) fails to recognise her own husband Suriji after he changes his look from the bespectacled Suriji to the punkie urbane dude Raj? Sorry, Adi even you'll not protest, if you're pulled up for it. Right?

No.2: Raj goes overboard with his hamming, a trait that's by now synonymous with the King Khan. Nonetheless, such flaws will be forgiven, especially at a time, when people wanted some smile back in their bleak lives. Yes, 'RNBDJ' stands out from motley crowd simply for its fine performances by the lead stars, its humour and the authentic backdrop of the Amritsar city captured beautifully by cinematographer, Ravi C Chandran. The musical duo of Salim Suleiman's scores yet another winning title track… Haule Haule.

Performances
Like always, SRK makes you cry and laugh, and cheer for him unabashedly. And the ever delightful Vinay Pathak comes across as more endearing. But it's a treat to watch the debutant Anushka who has way to go.

Oye G Verdict
It's King Khan's movie all the way. It has its flaws like loose screenplay, over-the top performances, a confusing sub plot, but still this beautiful love story triumphs against all odds. The simpleton Surinderji makes you cry, but at the end you come out of the theater with a simile. King Khan… still rules!

Wow, what a movie!!! One of the BEST movies I have watched in a long time. As one of the craziest fans of SRK, I watch every single film of his on the very first day & keep boasting about it, whether it is actually good or not. But Rab ne is truly beautiful !!! It deserves all the praises. I was completely lost in the movie that I felt Taani in me & I started thinking like her while watching it. Aditya Chopra has done a great job & I believe that no other director is capable of turning such a simple story into an amazing film like Rab ne. Three cheers to you Adi!!! Keep doing great work & never think of critics. As usual, Shah Rukh keeps us glued to the screens throughout the film. SRK plays both the roles so differently that I never felt the flirty Raj was the same Suri who doesn't even look at Taani directly. He is truly the Best Actor in Bollywood & perhaps in the whole world. Well done Shah Rukh!!! I truly want to meet you one day & congratulate you especially for your performance in Rab Ne. Finally, I hope & believe all the popular awards would be grabbed by Rab Ne. Adi deserves the Best Director award, SRK deserves the Best Actor award & if possible Anushka should be given the Best Actress award (or atleast the best newcomer award). Best film, Best music & best story awards also should be given to Rab Ne.

One last word for Anushka, if you ever read this, remember you are the luckiest girl in the world. To be launched by Yash Raj films opposite SRK is the best debut any girl could ever wish for. Also, you are a very good actress, keep performing well & please make wise choices without compromising just to add another movie to your filmography. Kudos to the cast & crew of Rab Ne, Great job guys!!!

Rab ne bana di Jodi.........the title says it all and it was well justified by Adi's brilliant script work. This was the best movie i ever watched. Thru out the running time of the movie i hav not thought of anything else even for a moment. Rab ne....... was so special bcoz of Suri's honesty in love. I am a big fan of SRK.. I believed that he is the best hero but not the best actor in bollywood. I am glad that he proved me wrong with his dedicated, realistic, simplistic portrayal of Suri. His performance is better(tougher) than that of Swades.I couldnt see SRK in an SRK's character for the first time.I could see only Surinder Sahni-I work for Punjab Power........SRK was at his best in the 4 or 5 scenes where he shows Suri's feelings in Raj's getup. Anushka made this movie believable. Her debut performance was flawless. She looked great while dancing and in anger. She had a good smile too....The scene after sumo fight and scenes in which she is confused were excellently performed. Adi Chopra is the real hero of this film. Writing such an involving script with only 2 or 3 characters(unlike yrf) is commendable. The story is simple, which is one of the positives for the movie. The dialogues were very well written and not even a word by SRK or Anushka was out of their characters. The technical team needs a special mention. Particularly the cinematography, music-background score, art direction and choreography. The 3 lengthy shots in 'Haule Haule' were brilliantly shot. I would like to write a few lines reviewing the reviewers and critics. I was shocked that wellknown critics failed to catch the basic threadline of this movie. This was the main reason for their negative comments. Their main argument was: 'How could Taani not recognize her husband in disguise?' My answer to this question is simple. Any film maker has the right of creative and cinematic liberty. You have to believe in the director to an extent. For example, if you are watching OSO, it should not be questioned that how a rebirth is possible. The viewer should believe(atleast for the running time of the movie) that a rebirth is indeed possible. Moreover, Adi didnt overlook this point in the movie. He gave it a mention with a good line: 'Agar Rabji chahte toh Taaniji mujhe ek minute mein pehchan leti, par unhone aisa nahi kiya'. Moreover, i believe there was considerable contrast between the appearances of Suri and Raj. We can easily identify Raj as Suri just bcoz both are SRK for us. From the point of the movie, it was not so easy for Taani. One more negative mentioned by the critics is that 'Taani looks confused thruout in finding her love'. I believe that Taani's confusion is justified. I would rather use the word 'thought' insteadof 'confusion'. If Taani didnt take time to decide on her love, the character's depth would have been lost.. Had she reacted instinctly, she would have looked 'foolish' rather than 'innocent'.

I watched this movie with my friends and I would like to mention about two of them. Both didnt like this movie. The reason was that they doubted the loyalty of Taani as she was getting attracted to Raj. They were not completely wrong but my problem with them is that they concluded on their final verdict(based on this point) even before the interval. That seemed foolish for me. Given a movie, everyone(atleast many) knows that the final verdict should be given at the end. The viewer may not have cinema sense but should atleast have patience.

All i all, Rab ne..... was a fresh movie which showed a triangular love story between two characters without boring the audience!!!! The messages given undercurrent are great:

RNBDJ is Extra ordinary film every family have to must watch it SRK, Anushka and vinay pathak are superb
rakshit patel
It is indeed a very great pleasure to watch this movie. The performances of Shahrukh,Anushka are memorable.Shahrukh does well in a role which is just against his personality and performances in many Super Hit movies.By her acting Anushka has shown that she may surpass all other recent new entries in the Hindi Cinema in the past few years. She is going to stay there for a long time. She would not be worried about the no game but she would be greatly and largely appreciated and admired. The Music and songs are loveable. The movie is likely to be one of the most memorable movies and would be viewed by a large number of persons all over for a long time. Yashraj Films have proved that whenever there is a talk about Romance and socializing they are the best. Their selection about the story, screenplay, presentation, music, songs, singer is just appropriate to any limit.

i am the big fan of SRK after VEER-ZAARA the one of the most ordinary film that Called Rab ne bana di jodi Rocks the theaters, i like this film RNBDJ because this film is a best film of the year.............is my openion...........my all friend circle wath this movie and glad all.

I just loved RNBDJ.One of the best films I have watched so far………..a masterpiece surely.I was awstrucken to see Anushka Sharma’s performance and ofcourse SRK again delivers a flawless act.I have watched the film twice and will watch watch it another five six times!!!!

Though I have been one of the biggest fans of SRK-Adi combo after Mohabbatien but RNBDJ took me off my feet. I never loved this movie bcoz it boasts SRK-Adi combo but the way Adi presented a simple story is a commendable job. RNBDJ came after Mumbai terrorist attack and still movie got the recognition. This shows it has something that brought people out of their homes.

On a personal note I feel movie worked because it carries the content, powerful acting, and superb music. I know music has been YRF’s forte but RNBDJ’s music is exceptional. Even though I missed Lataji’s voice still songs are fresh and still humming in my mind. If you ask one highlight of RNBDJ I will certainly say its simplicity and treatment. I feel Yash Raj is always safe when SRK is there with them and it goes vice versa as well.

Both share a nice compatibility and it is evident on screen. I also feel newcomer Anushka played her part very well. She was vibrant, chirpy and fresh to eyes. She looks a typical Indian girl with whom any guy would like to marry. Though critics never gave raving reviews about the movie but still its proved its mettle with the audience. When people said YRF’s movies are falling like a pack of cards, this movie came as a respite for everyone.

YRF got much needed blockbuster and it strengthened SRK-YRF jodi. Truly it’s a jodi made by Rab. Being a fan of YRF movies I will just request Adi and Yash uncle please don’t take a long gap in your next SRK-Adi combo movie. We all fans are desperately waiting for net venture.

"Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" is truly the greatest film I have ever seen, period. I saw it 5 times in the theater and cannot wait to get the DVD! It is not just the best film of 2008, nor the best YRF or even the best Bollywood film. It is by far the most awe-inspiring, powerful and exciting film ever made, surpassing everything else from both Bollywood and Hollywood.

I would not just like to praise Aditya Chopra, but also thank him immensely for all of his hard work that gave us such a beautiful and well-written story. I was overjoyed when I heard that it did so well in the box office. This movie truly deserved that. I am a very spiritual person and I not only recognized my own personality and beliefs in Surinder, but I also saw within this story so many layers of meaning, truth and endless depth. I was so happy that I cried after watching this, not only because the story was divine and beautiful, but because I felt so much gratitude towards everyone who helped create it for teaching the true meaning of love and helping to make this simple, yet so unseen and much needed message triumph with this film becoming "the highest opening weekend grosser ever for Yash Raj Films!" Congratulations!!!

Shahrukh did a phenomenal job as usual, perfectly embodying the persona of divine love, warmth, innocence and humor, and Anushka did an astounding job, especially as a debutant, making such a lovable and beautiful character come to life. The movie was flawlessly directed with extraordinarily beautiful scenes such as the lighting up of Amritsar with the words "I love you," the scene in which Surinder shows the strength of love by taking down the sumo wrestler while on his knees and the one at the Golden Temple when Taani sees God in Suri, just to name a few. The music was excellent and melodious, and it is a soundtrack that I can enjoy day after day. RNBDJ is an emotional roller coaster that made me laugh until I cried and then left me amazed, spellbound and awestruck at the final revelation that is not only true in this movie, but that I believe holds true for real life as well: we are not in pain because we love, we are in pain because we feel we lack love. The good news is that we are only fooling ourselves. Divine love is sitting right in front of us at the dinner table each and every night but we just fail to recognize it. In the end, when we learn to see God in others and love them as ourselves, this truth will be awesomely revealed to us just as it was revealed to Taani while the movie ended with a bang of powerful dance and a celebration of fireworks.

Thank you so much Aditya Chopra, Yash Chopra, Shahrukh Khan, Anushka Sharma, Vinay Pathak, Ravi K. Chandran I.S.C., Salim-Sulaiman, Jaideep Sahni, Muneesh Sappel, Shiamak Davar, Vaibhavi Merchant, Aashish Singh, Sanjay Shivalkar, Ritesh Soni, Indrajit Neogi, Aki Narula, Maneesh Sharma, Fayyaz Badruddin, Abhay Singh, Sonu Niigaam, Roop Kumar Rathod, Sukhwinder Singh, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal, Labh Janjua as well as Kajol Devgan, Bipasha Basu, Lara Dutta, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerji for all that you put into this. I see God in your creation.

Let me start by saying that this film is another reason why I love to watch Indian movies, especially when they are made by YRF. I come from an Egyptian background, and currently live in Canada for more than 10 years. I Started watching Indian movies about 7 years ago beginning with all the very modern classics, which happens to be mostly produced by YRF. I eventually became a fan of Mr. Sshahrukh Khan and his work. This particular film is very light and sweet. It surely a very special treat. Looking at sacrifice, love and purity. Hence, the script borough many great messages, themes and ideas. The cast did a very wonderful job. Mr. Khan in a particular did such a great job in his acting portraying a great development between two different aspects of his character. Simple, yet very strong story. Loved the camera angels, locations and the songs were just great. Despite that I'm not Indian, and always depend on the subtitles to understand the movie, it surely touched me. Very well done, as I wish you all the best!
